The AFC.comKeshavarz keen on Nagoya rematchThursday, 24 November 2011Kuala Lumpur: Newly crowned AFC Futsal Player of the Year Mohammad Keshavarz is looking forward to a another clash against AFC Futsal Club Championship 2011 champions Nagoya Oceans, this time with his new club Giti Pasand.
Keshavarz, who was performing for his former club Shahid Mansouri in the final against Nagoya Oceans where they lost 2-3 in extra time before he changed club to Giti Pasand this year, recognises the mettle of the Japanese club but is still confident with his new team’s strength.
“Although Nagoya Oceans were the champions in the last edition of the AFC Futsal Club Championship, there’s no guarantee that they will be the champions again this time round,” the striker told the-afc.com.
“They are a good team but if my current team, Giti Pasand, meets with Nagoya Oceans in the upcoming edition of the AFC Futsal Club Championship, our team also has a chance to win the trophy.
“It’s not revenge, but I enjoy the game so much that I prefer to play against a strong team rather than a weak team. So I’m happy to be put up against Nagoya Oceans again but with a different team this time.”
With Giti Pasand now at the top of the chart in the Iranian Futsal Super League, Keshavarz, who was named the 2011 AFC Player of the Year during the AFC Annual Awards 2011 gala in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, is confident that his club will be the champions.
“My prediction is that our club Giti Pasand will be the champions in the Iranian league now going on,” said the 29-year-old Iran international.
“A majority of the players in the club are national team players and I don’t have major problems playing with them because we played together in previous campaigns, so I think our experience together will help us lift the trophy in Iran.”
