The AFC.comFutsal Club Championship in KuwaitMonday, 21 November 2011Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Futsal Committee, under the chairmanship of Guam’s Richard Lai, proposed to award the hosting rights of the 2012 AFC Futsal Club Championship to Kuwait on Monday.
The committee also accepted UAE’s request to change the dates of the 2012 AFC Futsal Championship. The tournament, which was scheduled to be played from May 15 to 22 will now be played from May 18 to 25.
At the outset, AFC Acting President praised the committee members for their work in the past 11 months to develop futsal in the continent.
“A great deal of work has been done in the past 11 months as the shorter version of the game made rapid strides in Asia. I would like to congratulate you for your efforts,” he said.
Richard Lai also appreciated the dedication and commitment of the committee members saying, “I appreciate that you have given your precious time to achieve our common goal of improving futsal in Asia.”
The members also discussed introducing women’s futsal competition in the continent from 2013.
The committee also decided participating criteria for the AFC Futsal Club Championship from 2013 to 2017. Uzbekistan will host the 2012 AFC Futsal Club Championship qualifiers for West, South and Central Zone while East and Asean zone qualifiers will be decided later.
