Iran deaf futsal team in world semis

Iran has advanced to the semifinals of the World Deaf Futsal Championship in Orebro, Sweden.

Iran beat European champion Ukraine 4-1 Tuesday night in the quarterfinals.

Iran will meet Russia on Thursday in the semifinals while Bulgaria will take on Turkey in the same stage.

Iran started the event with a 3-2 loss to Bulgaria but humbled Switzerland (10-1) and Norway (10-3) respectively in the group stage.

A total of 16 men's teams and 11 women's teams took part for the right to be called the best futsal nation in the world where all of the players are hearing-impaired.

The bronze medal and final matches will be held on Saturday.
