Spanish camp sets out England plan

Tuesday, 18 October, 2011

Lions prepared for opening World Cup Preliminary Round Qualifier.

The England Futsal squad go into this week’s FIFA World Futsal Cup 2012 Preliminary Round Qualifiers in Latvia on the back of a successful international training camp that provided the squad and coaching staff with valuable preparation for the challenge they will face in their upcoming round of matches.

England’s journey to Murcia back in September was part of the on-going development of the England Futsal programme, aimed at providing the players with an experience of a professional Futsal environment, and for Head Coach Pete Sturgess the opportunity to assess the current squad at the start of the new international Futsal season and the vitally important FIFA World Futsal Cup 2012 qualifying campaign.

The squad and coaching staff were invited by El Pozo Murcia FS to be part of a four-day training camp where they would be integrated with the both the players and coaching staff of one of the most highly respected Futsal clubs in Spain. El Pozo Murcia FS are members of the Spanish Liga National de Futbol Sala, regarded as one of the best professional Futsal leagues in the world.

During the four-day camp players received a series of tactical and technical sessions that were delivered by the El Pozo Murcia FS coaching staff. These highly informative sessions provided the players with an invaluable insight into how their current knowledge and experience of Futsal could be applied with even greater effect.

The camp also enabled the squad to embed this learning in two friendly matches against local Spanish league opposition in which Sturgess was able to try out various systems of play that will be invaluable in the qualifying matches against Latvia, Cyprus and San Marino.

England now travel to Lativa knowing that their recent progress will undergo a thorough examination in what is a difficult qualifying group against established European Futsal nations.
