MIDDLESBROUGH READY FOR SEASON AHEADMIDDLESBROUGH Futsal Club will begin the FA Futsal League season on Sunday (2nd October, kick off 1.30pm) with a home fixture against Liverpool, and after a very tough pre season schedule they are ready and raring to go.
They will round off their preparations this week with an exhibition match at Teesside University on Thursday (7pm) as part of the University’s welcome week to attract new students to the sport.
Middlesbrough are hoping to carry on their form from the second half of last season to mount a title challenge and with some significant additions to the squad manager Damon Shaw is confident that they have the right ingredients for success.
“We have brought in some quality players since last season and the boys should be confident in each other. If they work hard and believe, there is no reason why they can’t do well this year,” said Shaw.
Only five players who started last season will line up on Sunday against Liverpool, but that doesn’t mean experience is missing.
“Ernesto [Casañ] has obviously played at a high level with Spain under-21s and in the top division in Spain and Samu [Gallego] had a season with Team Northumbria as well as having a futsal upbringing. The rest have all played for us in some capacity either with the youth team or in some regional league games last season,” he continued.
Last season Middlesbrough Futsal Club attracted the support of the Red Faction, a group of passionate supporters of all things Boro, and they add noise and colour to futsal matches at Thornaby Pavilion. They will be out in full force once again this season cheering on the town’s futsal team.
Tickets for Boro’s home games are £4 for adults, £2 for under 16s, but early bird prices of £3 and £1, as well as family tickets for £5 and group tickets for £10 can be bought in advance from BoroFutsal.com, Thornaby Pavilion, Catterick Leisure Centre and Walkabout Middlesbrough.
