Futsal league to conclude Sunday

Oct. 1, 2011

The semifinals and finals of the Bud Light Women's Futsal League will kick off Sunday at the Guam Sports Complex in Dededo.

Top-seeded Hyundai will face off against the Strykers in the first semifinal match at 1 p.m. and the other semifinal match will be the Orange Crushers against Quality Distributors at 2 p.m. at the Sports Complex.

After an hour break, the losing teams will play in the consolation match at 4 p.m. before the grand finale kicks off at 5 p.m.

Getting this far was no easy task for three of the semifinalists as their matches were each decided by one or two goals. Only Hyundai, pitted against the eighth-ranked Pretzelmaker Bombers, secured passage to the semifinals with some breathing space.

Here are the scores of the quarterfinals:

•Strykers def. Subaru STI 2-1: Goals from Felicia Alumbaugh and Phoebe Minato were enough to give No. 4 Strykers the win over No. 5 Subaru.

Orange Crushers def. Guam Shipyard 6-4: Kristin Thompson and Simie Willter each had hat tricks for the Crushers, who staved off a comeback attempt led by a hat trick from Shipyard's Erica Quichocho.

Quality Distributors def. dck Masters 4-3: The biggest quarterfinal surprise was No. 7 Quality's upset over No. 2 Masters, courtesy of goals from Kim O'Connor, Paige Surber, Nieves Cabreza and an own goal.

Hyundai def. Pretzelmaker Bombers 12-0: Jannel Banks smashed seven goals past the Bombers to lead undefeated Hyundai.
