Shangai DailyAustralia, Indonesian Islamic community cement ties through futsal22/9/2011JAKARTA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) - The Australian Embassy in Indonesia and Muhammadiyah, the second largest Islamic organization in the country, on Thursday tightened their ties through futsal match, a press statement said here.
The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty warmly welcomed Minister for Law and Human Right Patrialis Akbar and Prof Din Syamsuddin at the friendly futsal match between the Australian Embassy and the Muhammadiyah team.
"I am very pleased to host the first futsal match between the Australian Embassy and one of the largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia. This match is a demonstration of our friendship and our long standing relationship with Muhammadiyah," said Moriarty.
The Australian government values the partnership it has with Muhammadiyah. It is based on a joint commitment to enhance the development of Indonesia and fostering good relations between the two countries.
Australia has worked with Muhammadiyah since 2005 to improve the quality of basic education in Madrasah.
"Muhammadiyah has a long history of providing basic services such as health and education to Indonesian people and Australia is proud to have the opportunity to work with Muhammadiyah in many sectors including disaster preparedness and education," Moriarty said.
