Balwyn teen selected in national futsal team

PUTTING on the green and gold jersey is a dream come true for one Balwyn North teen.

Alex Powell has been selected to represent Australia at the International Futsal Competition in the UK in October.

Alex has been playing futsal, a form of indoor football, since 2008 and was one of only two Victorians selected for the Australian Vikings team.

The 14-year-old Trinity student, who trains twice a week and plays weekend games, said: “My dream is to become a professional football player and, hopefully, one day play for Melbourne Victory.”

Alex is this week’s Junior Sports Star nominee.
