Life after GCSE’s – Exeter City FC can help

26/08/2011

Exeter City FC has launched a new Futsal Education and Scholarship programme, offering an alternative to A Levels for year 11 school leavers who have just received their GCSE results.

The new programme which starts in September will be based at the football club and will combine the development of football skills with the opportunity to

Students enrolling on the course will be able to gain a BTEC qualification, which could still lead to further studies at university or employment in the sports and leisure industry.

Jamie Vittles, Exeter City’s Football in the Community Trust Community Trust Manager said: “There will be a lot of students out there who didn’t get the GCSE grades they needed and are unsure about what to do next. We want to let them know that it’s not the end of the world, and there are still plenty of options open to them.

“The new Futsal scholarship programme offers an excellent opportunity to school leavers who want to do something different while continuing in Further Education. The only GCSE requirements we look for are a C or above in English and Maths, so if you didn’t get the grades you needed to do A Levels you may still be able to enrol with us.

“I would strongly urge anyone with a passion for football who is wondering what to do next to get in touch and find out more about the Futsal Education Scholarship.”

Futsal is the only form of indoor football officially recognised by the worldwide governing body FIFA, and is also supported by UEFA and the FA.

Students enrolling on the Futsal Scholarship Programme will be trained by Exeter City FC coaches, will receive up to 6 hours training per week from UEFA level coaches, and will be able to watch Exeter City FC stars in training and first team matches.

The full-time course is part of a new partnership deal between Exeter City FC and @Futsal Ltd, and also enables students to play an active role in their communities by providing industry-recognised coaching and refereeing awards.

A few places are still available to join the Futsal scholarship starting in September. Anyone interested in applying should contact jamie.vittles@exetercityfc.co.uk for more information.
