Futsal C'ship 2012 draw mechanics announced

Kuala Lumpur: AFC has announced the draw mechanics for the qualifying round of the AFC Futsal Championship 2012 to be played in the UAE.

In a letter dated August 3 to its member associations, AFC informed that the draws will be made based on the last edition of the AFC Futsal Championship held in Uzbekistan.

Defending champions Iran, runners-up Uzbekistan and third-placed Japan have been given direct entry into the finals while UAE also earned automatic qualification as hosts.

Three teams from each zone will qualify for the finals.

China, Korea Republic, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Macau and Mongolia will be divided into two groups of three teams each in East Zone. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The winners of these last four clashes will play the final while the losers will play a third-place playoff.

In Asean zone, eight teams – Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar and Cambodia - will be divided into two groups of four teams each. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The winners of these last four clashes will play the final while the losers will play a third-place playoff.

Kuwait, Lebanon, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Syria, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and UAE will be divided into two groups of five and four teams in West Zone. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The winners of these last four clashes will play the final while the losers will play a third-place playoff.

Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Maldives will play one round robin league and top three teams will qualify from the Central and South Zone.
