Peterborough TodayBourne sign a couple of internationalsby
Mark PlummerFriday 5 August 2011BOURNE Town have signed two England internationals for the new season.
Jason Kilbride - who has represented his country in Futsal - and Fernand Bass (who skippered England in the 2005 Homeless World Cup) headline half-a-dozen Wakes captures this summer.
Kilbride is a tricky winger who has played for Bourne before. He has now returned to the area from the North East where he was playing top level Futsal.
Wideman or striker Bass has joined from Peterborough League Premier Division outfit Coates and has impressed in pre-season.
Bourne manager Darren Munton has also made four other signings for his United Counties League Division One squad who can’t claim to be internationals.
Brothers Peter and Lee Conneely are well-known players at local level though and have arrived from Blackstones Reserves and Stamford Bels respectively.
Steve Colangelo has joined after returning from university and Josh Bell is a left-back stepping up to United Counties League Division One level after previously playing locally.
Munton said: “It is never easy bringing players in what you are not in a position to pay them anything, but I’m delighted with the lads we’ve attracted.
“Jason has moved back down here and had been absolutely flying in training while Fernand has looked sharp in our friendlies as well.
“The signings give us plenty of different options whereas last season we were always limited to playing one way.
“I’m really hoping they can help us push on and I’d like to think we can challenge for a top-six finish.”
Bourne travel north tomorrow for a friendly at Calverton Miners’ Welfare.
THERE will be nothing friendly about Stamford’s final pre-season outing tomorrow.
The Daniels travel to local rivals Grantham Town for a Lincs Senior Shield semi-final - and this match is as serious at it gets according to manager Simon Clark.
Stamford are determined to keep hold of the county trophy they won last season so are out to put on a top display against their big-spending hosts.
Clark said: “Grantham have spent an absolute fortune after being pipped in the play-offs last season and it is clear they want to get up.
“We don’t have that sort of money to spend but we are pleased with the business we’ve done and are very much looking forward to tomorrow’s test.
“We will do everything we can to retain the trophy and I’m sure it will be a full-blooded match. Both teams will be strong and both will want to win.”
Clark has completed the capture of goalkeeper Mario Ziccardi. He is a former Grantham, Lincoln United and Lincoln Moorlands Railway player.
Ziccardi replaces previous summer recruit Gavin Saxby who has left for work-related reasons to join Evo-Stik Division One South rivals Rainworth MW.
