Robert DomanTHE Llanymynech Lemurs Under 14 girls side have been crowned Champions of England at the English FA Futsal Championships.
Lemurs were representing the West Midlands region in the national Youth Futsal Festival Finals, winning a hard-fought final on penalties to bring the title to the border counties.
The girls conceded just one goal in the entire competition, which was staged in Birmingham, beating the South East, the North West, the South West and the East regional champions along the way.
After beating the London region in the semi-final the Lemurs then faced North East and Yorkshire representatives, South Cave JFC, in the final, holding their nerve to bring the trophy home to the delight of coach, Tim Turner, who said: “The game demands stamina, excellent skills and tactics and our girls showed, in every game they played at both regional and national level, that they deserve to be recognised as the best in the country.”
The competition win means the Lemurs have ended the season as treble winners having won both Shropshire League and Cup honours with their players drawing the attentions of Everton Ladies, Liverpool and Birmingham.
Four of the team have represented the Welsh national squad at Under 16s whilst aged just 14.
The team is now looking to secure a major sponsor to enable it to compete in Futsal competitions on an international stage.
Anyone interested in sponsoring the side can contact Tim on 07967 755626.
