VN win street footie silver medal

Vietnamese representative Thai Son Bac won a silver medal in the third leg of the Tiger Street Football tournament in China on Sunday.

Thai Son Bac, Viet Nam's futsal (indoor football) champions, lost to the Netherlands' Street Legend by a goal during extra time in the final.

Earlier, the team beat Germany's Street Eagles 5-2 in the semi-final, who went on to crush Singapore's On the Run in the third-place final.

A total of 180 teams participated in the tournament, which was sponsored by Tiger Beer and broadcast in Viet Nam, Brazil, Thailand, Singapore, China and Indonesia, in co-operation with ESPN/Star Sport Television.

The first and second leg of the competition were played in Singapore and Bangkok in April and May, respectively, before the third was held in Guangzhou this month. HCM City will host the fourth leg next month.

The culmination of an adrenaline-filled international grand finale will be Kuala Lumpur in September. At the Grand Finals, the top team from each local leg will fight it out to be the Tiger Street Football Champion and win the coveted top prize of US$30,000.

The goal of the tournament is to elevate the level of play and passion for football in the nations that are hosting the competition.
