Major success for Spitfires

SWINDON Spitfires Under 10s claimed the runners-up spot at the FA National Youth Futsal Festival at the Futsal Birmingham International Arena recently.

Representing the south west region Spits made a slow start, losing 4-3 to Castletown Girls, but they bounced back to see off Wigton Moor 3-1 in their second game.

Spitfires secured a semi-final spot with a comfortable 4-0 win over Newport.

After a 3-1 friendly victory over Westley Middle School, Carlisle City were the semi-final opponents.

The tie was not decided in normal time and eventually went down to penalties, where the Swindon girls prevailed 3-2 from the spot to reach the final.

Spits came up against Castletown once more in the last two, and once again lost out in a high scoring cracker.

This time the score read 3-2 in their opponents’ favour, but for Spits second second place should still be considered a fine achievement.

Meanwhile, Spitfires Under 15s continued their successful summer by winning the Laverstock & Ford six-a-side tournament, their fourth title to date.

Swindon Spitfires are currently on the lookout for new players at all junior levels, from under ’eight through to under 16, to add to their playing squads for next season.

Swindon Spitfires Ladies are looking for new blood for the coming season as they look to push the first team forward in the South West Women’s League.

Any interested players are invited to try out in the twice-weekly training sessions.

Players need to be aged 16 or over, or be approaching their 16th birthday, and must have been playing regularly recently.

Training sessions take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 7pm and 8.30pm, at South Marston Recreation Ground.
