MIDDLESBROUGH Futsal Club broke the World Record for the longest ever futsal match on Saturday night, beating the previous time of 35 hours held by Bethel College, USA by one hour.

The two teams of 11 players (5-a-side, 6 subs) each battled it out at Catterick Leisure Centre over 36 hours from 10am on Friday 1st July until 10pm on Saturday, with the score finishing an incredible 820-643.

The evidence will now be submitted to Guinness World Records™ to have the record verified.

Club owner Damon Shaw planned the world record attempt both to raise awareness of futsal and the club in the area and also to raise funds for Cash for Kids and Middlesbrough.

“It was a success on all counts. We have so far raised over £3,000, which will be shared between the club and the charity and we have further enhanced our standing in the community with some good coverage that breaking a world record brings!” said Shaw.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without everybody who supported us throughout, from sponsors to players and witnesses to stewards so a huge thanks goes out to all of them.”

“We now break for the summer until preseason in September when we will be preparing to bring the title to Middlesbrough as well as a World Record. The players will have a well deserved rest and come back raring to go – safe in the knowledge that the longest they will play is 2 hours!”
