Montenegro test for Futsal team

Next weekend sees England in Futsal action as they host Montenegro.

The England Futsal team will be playing two friendly international Futsal matches against Montenegro at The Point 4 at the Royal College for the Blind in Hereford on the evenings this weekend. These two back-to-back friendly matches will be the first time that these two nations have met in international Futsal, and should be two close encounters.

Montenegro will not be an easy match for the English team; with the Montenegrins ranked 30 places higher than England in the FIFA World Rankings, so they should prove a formidable challenge for the England players. However, the England squad has had a positive eighteen months, with some exceptional performances and results, and on home turf this match promises to be a tight affair as the England team will be keen to begin their preparations for this autumn’s FIFA Futsal World Cup Qualifiers on a positive note.

“The England Futsal squad has had an impressive two years, learning and developing significantly and are now a challenge for any nation on the international stage," said Simon Walker, The FA National Manager for Small Sided Football.

"Pete Sturgess (England Head Coach) has done a fantastic job in identifying and nurturing young talented players that as a group have really taken England forward. England’s recent performances are promising and there is a quiet confidence surrounding the future development of this team.

"The England squad needs to overcome a strong Montenegro team, who will pose significant challenges. In recent year’s England have performed well in Hereford and it promises to be an exciting contest.”

The Football Association are hoping for a large local crowd to come and support England in both matches against Montenegro. Both matches will be played at the Point 4 at the Royal College for the Blind in Hereford, with tickets costing £1.50 for children and students and £3 for adults.
