Stevens Corner Champions !! Restaurant side Stevens Corner with branches in Pandan Indah and OUG emerged champions of the first ever Umbro-Planet Football Corporate Futsal Tournament in Sports Barn, PJ yesterday. They edged MPPJ and Standard Chartered in the round-robin finals to emerge as overall champions of the tournament.

Thet tournament which drew 36 teams, some from as far as Johor and Perak, saw some surprises where favourites PWB Services were knocked out by an equally good MPPJ side 2-0 in the fourth round. Twelve teams were eliminate in the round robin league stage with the last 24 stage being the separation between the pretenders and the contenders. KPMG lost on sudden death penalty kicks to PWB Services, while MPPJ edged EPF. Standard Chartered registered a narrow 1-0 win over Darul Hani, with BSKL Bulls and EON Johor thrashing Orange and Jabatan Pengairan & Saliran respectively. Eventual champions Stevens Corner beat AS Massa 3-0. In the fourth round, MPPJ played some great football to edge pre-tournament favourites PWB Services, while Stevens Corner had to thank Shariz for his penalty winner over EON Johor. Standard Chartered halted BSKL Bulls' run, winning 2-0.

In the deciding match of the round robin final between Standard Chartered from Ipoh and Stevens Corner, after both had registered earlier wins over MPPJ, Stevens had raced to an early 3-0 lead with superb goals through Shariz and Parameswara. Just about then, the sleeping banking giant awoken, and in quick succession drew level 3-3. I t was trully a brusing encounter with battered bodies and tired legs out there, but their minds were strong. Stevens found inspiration and played scintilating football to bring the whole house down, win Shariz's goal after Parameswara squarely laid off the ball. Shariz returned the favour for Parameswara to put Stevens in firm control of the match. Near the end, Stevens scored yet another to wrap the game up 6-3, and bag the overall title.
