After the past year, which was definitely not full of satisfaction for Benfica, things seems to be changed for the portuguese "aguias" which began today the 2006/2007 season (even if the Supercup is considered as part of the 2005/2006 season in Portugal) with a thrilling triumph over the "usual" opponents of Sporting.

The Alipio Matos' team managed to obtain an unhoped access to the penalty series, when the former MRA Xota Costinha scored the 5-5 draw just 9 seconds before the end of the second extra time.

Then, Alipio Matos chose the former Sporting Bebè to replace Zè Carlos in the penalty series, until his deciding save against his former mate Evandro.

First results of a prestigious summer market campaign, characterized by the arrivals of well known players like Gonçalo Alves, Bebé, Costinha, Zé Maria, Jony, Estrela and João Marçal.
