FIFA will host a Futsal course for Caribbean Coaches and Referees at the University of West Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago from 6-11 September.
Twenty coaches and twenty-one referees from 12 National Associations (Anguilla, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Sint Maarten, Surinam and Trinidad & Tobago) are participating in the course, which is organized by the FIFA Development Office in Port of Spain and will have Jyrkki Fillpu (Refereeing) of Finland and James Roberts (Coaching) of Australia as the instructors for the event.

FIFA staged a Futsal Course (in English) in September 2003 at the University of West Indies, where 31 participants from the CONCACAF Member Associations took part.

Futsal is strengthening its profile and presence in the Caribbean, with an increasing number of national associations including the sport in their long term development plans and annual programmes.

The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) also intends to introduce an annual regional championship to build on the success of the first 2004 CFU Tournament, which was the preliminary competition for the Caribbean Zone to the CONCACAF Futsal Championship last July.

FIFA will host another Futsal course for Coaches and Referees (in Spanish) early next year in Cuba.
